Zero Clearance fireplaces are divided into three categories

Gas:     Direct Vent and B-Vent

Wood:  EPA Approved fireplaces have very low emissions and are very efficient.Conventional fireplaces which are opened in the front using operable doors and are not energy efficient. 

Electric: Very realistic flame and logs and actually put out some heat.
